Whether your website opens: its home page and up to three other pages, from several countries, every five minutes. It also shows when your site’s security certificate and domain name run out. Technical details are on the features page.
No. You only enter your site’s address. We open it from outside, as a visitor would; nothing runs on your server.
Every 5 minutes by default; you can choose 10, 15, 30 or 60 minutes per URL. Certificates are checked every 12 hours and domains once a day, more often as their expiry gets close.
When a check fails from most locations at the same scheduled moment, after one retry 10 seconds later. If it fails from some locations but not most, the URL is degraded. A single failed request never changes a state.
Each location tests its own connection every minute. When that test fails, or the location stops reporting, we leave it out of verdicts, because its failures would say nothing about your site.
Not yet. Today you see states, incidents and expiry dates in your account.
Some firewalls and bot protection services block requests from data centers, where our checking servers run. The check shows the status your server returned. You can allow our User-Agent in your firewall, or add the status to the ones you expect.
No. We request the URL as a server sends it and read up to 1 MiB of the response. A keyword that a script adds later will not be found.
Addresses on your site’s domain or its subdomains, over HTTP or HTTPS, on ports 80, 443, 8080 or 8443. Addresses that resolve to private or internal networks are refused.
Individual check results: 30 days. Hourly statistics, incidents and activity: 400 days. Daily uptime: as long as the URL exists. When you delete a URL, a site or your account, its data is deleted at once. The privacy policy has the full list.
Some registries, such as the one for .de, do not publish expiry dates, and some have no public lookup. We say so on the card. A site on a shared hosting domain, such as github.io, has no domain card at all: that registration belongs to the host.
Only with its owner’s permission (see acceptable use). Few accounts can watch the same domain, and a site owner can ask us to stop checking their domain.
Yes. The free plan is the only plan today and asks for no payment details. See pricing.
In your account settings. Your sites, URLs and their history are deleted at once; database backups that still contain them are overwritten within 7 days.
